This isn’t a blog post I ever envisioned writing. My family is currently “displaced,” and has spent some time in a hotel as our temporary home! Long story short, freezing cold temperatures caused a pipe in our condo building to burst and the whole line of units that we were in got flooded. Yes, water, flood, NO BUENO. Luckily, we were home when it happened and we immediately called for help and were able to protect our personal belongings…but half of our home is now affected by water damage and with 2 toddlers,...

I enjoyed a really wonderful Christmas and New Year holiday week, with my family on the West Coast recently…and while it’s back to work and back to reality, I can’t help but continue to bask and smile at how awesome it all turned out! I mean the term “holidays” often conjure up visions of stress, fatigue and even panic – especially as parents, along with all the warm, fuzzy notions of the magic of the season. Well, this time around we decided to pack it up and fly west for a week to be with my side...

The time has come… I kept telling myself we’d wait until after Christmas vacation and for the new year before I’d “make” my baby give up the pacifier. Now is the perfect time, right? We got him off the bottle months ago, he’s graduated to a sippy cup, so the natural progression should be to break his binkie habit! I haven’t been really pressed to force the issue, I mean up to this point he only “officially” has 5 teeth! Yup, 5 teeth on the brink of being 18 months, but over the weekend,...

My kids are frequent fliers…literally! Well, maybe I should rephrase that to my “kid” is a frequent flier and I mean that in the “true” sense of the word. Raef is 2 now, so that means he gets his own seat on the plane. It means instead of having to cover the cost of 2 adult tickets – when we fly as a family, we have to pay for 3. It means that he is now an official card carrying member of his own frequent flier accounts. It’s probably not a huge concern for most parents, and the idea of making...

I had an opportunity to ice skate on opening day at MacArthur on Ice…the local mall’s outdoor holiday ice rink, so I made it a family outing! I started ice skating at the age of four, so the idea of taking my boys skating was pretty exciting and I couldn’t wait to see how they took to the ice. And — what better way to get into the holiday spirit, than lacing up some ice skates and enjoying all the outdoor (icy) elements. HA! The really nice thing about the MacArthur on Ice rink is that they have a kiddie rink,...

I’ll admit it..I’m an avid internet user. I’m never far from being online and it’s rare that I ever get to totally disconnect…and since I’ve become a Mom, the way I use the internet and it’s value to me have most definitely changed. Prior to motherhood, I would occasionally make a purchase online, usually just browse, but still physically go to a store and make my purchases. However, when I learned I was expecting, the internet sort of became my best friend… I turned to the world wide web...

I had the pleasure of walking in “The Fall Fashion Show” for Town Center of Virginia Beach and Pembroke Mall along with my two favorite little guys! Yup, Raef and Isaiah….my two precious MODEL citizens. They were the youngest children in the show and wore a couple fall looks form The Children’s Place. Raef rocked black cotton (dress) pants with black loafers along with a plaid button down with a red sweater over it and a 3-button vest, while Isaiah sported a teal sweater with a coordinating button down plaid...

The Marvel Universe Live! show recently came through town and just like any dutiful parents would, we took our 2 boys to see some superheroes. I debated in my head at whether or not they would be too young to understand or enjoy the show, but it was down the street and a matinee showing, so why not!?!? My toddlers aren’t super familiar with super heroes…they have a few Spiderman this and Batman that items around the house, but it’s not something we really have introduced to them, so we went into it knowing that they...

I caught myself in a “Scary Mommy” moment today. I’m not proud of it, that’s definitely not who I want to be for my children…but it happens, and I decided to write about it. I’m talking a pull out your hair, throw your hand up, want to scream at the top of your lungs…all around frustrating moment!?!? I’ve had to work pretty hard to consciously change the behaviors, reactions and overall stay in better control of my emotions, to “break the cycle” of the examples I was given growing...
