Older Sibling Motivation

Is it just me or do all you other parent’s of more than one child notice how much more quickly baby number 2 does…everything!?!? Mine are really close together, remember…just 53 weeks, and there are so many things I’m seeing Isaiah do earlier than when Raef hit those same milestones.

Now I know every child is different and develops at their own pace, but surely Isaiah is feeling the “Older Sibling Motivation.” I love it and what I enjoy even more is seeing my two little men growing and learning things together, but I have to admit it goes so much quicker with the second child.

Let’s see, Isaiah sat up, crawled, stood on his own, walked, talked and well, you get the picture sooner than his brother did. And it’s one of those things that you get so excited for to see them hit all the “milestones,” but now that we’re on the verge of putting Isaiah in a toddler bed at 18 months…I’m thinking it’s all been a blur!

They seem to be a little tougher, they’ve got to jockey for position when it comes to Mom and Dad’s attention and please believe, my #1 takes full advantage of his current size and coordination advantage to in effect trump his baby brother when it comes to toys, food and being first….BUT those days are numbered.

I say all this to say, cherish every moment you have with your little ones and don’t ever be in a rush for them to grow up, or compare them to the next kid who’s the same age and so “advanced.” The time truly does fly and while it’s great to see my two toddler “terrors,” with little brother looking up and trying to mimic everything big brother does, I wish they could understand “slow down….there’s no reason to rush.”
