Quick Bio: I’m the personal assistant, taxi driver and pillow to my three kiddos. I’m also the Executive Producer of San Antonio Living, a lifestyle TV program in the Alamo City. Go Spurs GO! Completed my first novel, coming soon! Keep up with me on Twitter @ericaguevara
Q: What is your “go to” snack/toy/show/trick when your kids start to fuss?
A: I’d have to say YouTube is a big one, especially since it’s portable via phone (I keep ear buds in my purse)! I’ve introduced my kids to all genres of music with it, showing them videos from the past. We sing a lot in the car. It’s neat to watch them make the connection to music samples they know today, with original artists like Michael Jackson, The Beatles and more. There’s always music in the home.
Q: How do you balance being a Mommy and keeping your sense of self?
A: I schedule “me” time, and that means getting up extra early before everyone in the house. It’s priceless distraction-free time to do whatever I want.
Q: What is your favorite piece of advice to new Moms?
A: Do the best you can and don’t expect perfection. No one has it all together 100% of the time. Parenting is a wonderful work in progress and a lifelong learning experience. Lead with your heart, enjoy the journey and the messes that come along with it.
Q: How do you incorporate fitness into your daily routine?
A: I’m at the gym before the sun comes up most days now. I’ve found I’m most consistent on this schedule, and also less tired throughout the day.
Q: How would you describe your parenting style?
A: Tough when needed, but always loving. Rigid when it comes to school work and chores, but I confess, I’ve jumped on the bed with them on several occasions. Hugs and kisses galore, and I tell them I love them daily!
Q: Share your best or favorite place for a family vacation and tell us why.
A: NYC. It’s my hometown, and I get to play tourist showing them all the sites. I also get to enjoy my city with new lenses each time.
Q: What’s your most memorable Mommy moment to date?
A: Too many to list! 🙂
Q: As a Mommy what is it that you feel you do “right”?
A: I’ve always read to them, and they all have a love of books. My youngest is at the stage where he’s recognizing and sounding those words out on the page, exciting to witness! I make time for my kids daily. Help with homework, a chat, a game, something – my way of touching base. I encourage them to dream and follow their own compass. I remind them to be grateful. And, I keep it real with my kids when they ask my opinion. Sometimes they don’t like the answer, but they’ve told me they appreciate the honesty.
Q: Share something you have learned about yourself since you became a Mom.
A: I’m not a great cook, direct feedback from my kids. A “C” in cooking at best – yes, they keep it real with me too! Also, having kids definitely puts your potty mouth in perspective. I’m working on it. #failingmiserably In the meantime, I’ve instituted a “do as I say, not as I do” policy when it comes to this.
Q: Describe your “Haute Mom” (fashion) style!
A: Tees, jeans and sneakers when I’m not working. My dressy style varies on my mood, but I do enjoy bright colors and many boho chic looks.
Q: What’s the best surprise you’ve ever done for your kids/family?
A: Most recently, a surprise trip to Six Flags. They were only given clues and their reaction when they figured it out was hilarious. We’re also big practical jokers in our house (blame my husband!), so that’s always a good time. I’m the easiest target, sadly. 🙂
