Girl power was on full display in the city by the Bay this weekend, as the ivivva Coast to Coast Festival popped up in San Francisco  at the scenic City View at Metreon. More than 250 active, stylish and energetic tween girls showed up to engage in the festivities, including the POUND workout, making it the largest class of tweens they’ve ever led!

If you’re a fan of lululemon athletica, know that ivivva is cut from the same cloth. The brand was inspired by active girls and celebrates them, with stylish, sporty athletic wear and experiences that connect young girls through movement and aims to inspire them to dream big!

Over the weekend in SF, ivivva offered locals fun in the sun with a tribal marker artists, a hair braiding team, photobooth, music, yoga, acro yoga, and more!

The event also featured a yoga class co-led by 11-year old Sydney, one of the youngest certified yoga instructors in the country, and local teacher Heather McKenzie, as well as inspiring speakers from ivivva’s Dreams & Goals program including ivivva Director of Brand & Community, Allison Forsyth.

Additionally, the girls participated in a POUND workout, the world’s first cardio jam session inspired by the infectious, energizing and sweat-dripping fun of playing the drums. So much fun for a Saturday in San Francisco! I love the idea behind this new line and I think it’s great that the younger set can be just as stylish and encouraged to workout, as their female role models (i.e. Mom, big sisters, etc…). Now if I only had a little girl…sigh! 😉

Getting Girls Interested in Science

I had a great opportunity to cover a partnership between two companies who are working together to get girls interested in pursuing a career in science. Green Works, you know the all-natural laundry and household cleaners, sponsored a new subscription service called StemBox. The “stem” standing for science, technology, engineering and math.

While doing my interviews, as well as writing and editing the piece it made me think back to my days as a school-age girl and where my interests lay when it came to science… Personally, I never hated science and I was and still am pretty good at math, but my desire to tell stories was stronger. I love that Green Works was created by a female scientist and that StemBox is aimed toward and specifically tailored for girls.

2013 Holiday Gift Guide: For Her

Screen shot 2013-11-27 at 9.26.28 PM

I’ll be the first to admit, that I’m probably not the easiest person to buy a gift for. I mean I could write a list and tell you what I want, but even that can be tough…especially these days for me as a Mom, I have everything I need, and there isn’t much I want! Sure, there’s stuff I WANT, but they are luxuries that are not easily justifiable due to cost and practicality. Seriously though, I have always struggled with issues of buyer’s remorse and I always want the best bargain… I’ve learned to live on a budget, and it’s just hard for me to ask for things that I really don’t need or can’t justify. At any rate, the holidays is not all about giving gifts, but it is also about receiving, because even though it may be a “material” gesture, you have to be open to the one who is giving, since it may be the giver’s way of showing their love and appreciation for you!

All that being said, here are some of my favorite picks “For Her,” under $100 from the 2013 Gilt.com Holiday Gift Guide!

Put a ring on it! Well, actually she will with this Crown Ring Holder by Three Rings. Sometimes I’m not so big on all the jewelry organizers, but I love this because it’s cute and practical, and different than a traditional jewelry box! Now if you want to get her a ring to place on the holder…that might cost more than $100! 😉 Crown her for $10 at GILT.

Give her some color… GILT has this Paula Dorf exclusive nail polish set of 5. Even if she’s the type to go to the salon for a mani/pedi, it’s always nice to have a set of polish on hand at home, and at $22, this is a GILT-less deal!

A robe! Everyone needs to have a robe and one of my most memorable gifts from a good friend was a robe, which I still use to this day every time I step out of the shower or need a quick cover up! Check out this Patch Pocket Robe by Blush Lingerie for a very affordable $39.

Bracelets can also be a very nice gift, they’re an accessory which I may not necessarily purchase f  rmyself, but if I have them on hand, I am bound to put them to use! This silver-tone set with white and blue bead details from Chamak by Priya Kakkar is pretty and would easily pair with a range of outfits. Find it at GILT for $55.

Last but not least, if your gift recipient is someone who’s into fashion and likes “labels,” you can’t go wrong with the Missoni Supermini Manual Umbrella. It’s cute, compact and above all stylish, perfect to keep in your bag to save her on a rainy day! at GILT for $69.
