Winter ONEderland

vvgg4
One of my good friend’s recently celebrated the very first birthday for her twin girls. And, since they are December babies turning 1, she decided on a Winter Wonderland theme, turning the WON into ONE for a Winter ONEderland! I really loved the play on words for the theme, because when you think about it, it’s very cute to spin the WON into ONE! She also incorporated a “cool” color scheme using white, along with silver and sprinkles of pink and purple for a girly touch.
vvgg5She created a fun reception table with winter-feel frames for photos and messages for guests, plus winter holiday themed floral arrangements and accents.

Then a huge standing blackboard greeted guests with the birthday girl’s vital info from “then to now,” with a rundown of all their favorite things! BTW…this board wasn’t a printout, it was actually hand-drawn with chalk, so kudos to whoever created that masterpiece!

Staying with the theme, she used snowflake cutouts to hang on the walls and hung personalized custom banners with the pink and purple accents for pops of color.

The cake was a two layer fondant cake adorned with snowflakes and silver sparkles too, to give it some bling…

A candy bar was opened to the guests after the cake cutting, as treats to bring home. She used clear serving bowls with a simple silver ribbon and cute signs tied around them to indicate the different types of candy, stacking them on accent boxes to create levels. Another great thing she did was to provide goodie bags to the children when they first arrived, to keep them occupied throughout the party. They contained items like stickers, coloring books, crayons, along with cute & easy “winter” crafts.

fairyIn terms of entertainment, a “winter fairy” stopped by for magic tricks and interaction with the children, and after the “show” she offered balloons and face-painting services.

Then as one last parting gift (favor), the host passed out cute bars of “winter” soap and packets of DIY Hot Chocolate, perfect to keep you warm and cozy in a Winter ONEderland!

Q: How do you balance being a Mommy and keeping your sense of self?
A: Starting my business has definitely fulfilled my need to interact with adults and socialize with other women. Being a stay at home mom takes a toll on you physically and mentally. This opportunity has been such a blessing in my life. For the first time I’m actually doing something I absolutely love and I’m creating financial freedom for my family while doing it.

Q: What is your favorite piece of advice to new Moms?
A: Set a schedule as soon as you can. Whether you have 1 baby or 3, get their routines down so you can plan out your day and know exactly when your breaks will be.

Q: How would you describe your parenting style?
A:  I’m very affectionate and understanding. I’ve learned each child’s individual needs. What works for one child won’t always work for another.

Q: What’s your most memorable Mommy moment to date?
A: I recently put Stella down for a nap without her sleep sack. An hour later I went to check on her because she was fussing and to my surprise, she had her pants off, diaper off and pee’d all over her crib!!!

Q: As a Mommy what is it that you feel you do “right”?
A: I like to raise my children to be very independent. Yes, it means they grow up a little faster but it makes me proud to see that the twins can brush their teeth, feed themselves, settle themselves to sleep in their own room and that my 6 year old showers herself and gets straight to her homework after school. I also talk to my kids in a calm voice, especially when they are fussy. You always want to lead by example.

I know some mothers might say why would you ever miss working, but everyone is different. I have a page on Facebook “Seriously Shawanda” find me and like my page. It’s just some adventures as a stay at home mom through my comedic eyes!

Q: What is your “go to” snack/toy/show trick when your kids start to fuss?
A: Being a former AZ Cardinals Cheerleader, naturally my girls love to dance! When I have a house full of crabby babies (and after making sure all of their needs are taking care of course), I put on some music and all the girls dance. My living room sorta looks like a scene from Charlie Brown when all the characters are dancing doing their own thang.

Q: How do you balance being a Mommy and keeping your sense of self?
A: Since I technically have 3 one year olds. It’s important to to maintain a schedule especially at nap time. But for some reason I think they take turns breaking the routine. Which then cuts into my “break time,” but once I see their cute lil smile all is forgiven <3

Q: How do you incorporate fitness into your daily routine?
A: Try to incorporate your little one’s into your routine. We have a radio flyer wagon with seat belts. We go walking around the neighborhood as a family. My husband and I take turns pulling the girls. The wagon works your arms, legs and you get a little cardio in there as well. The girls also love it!

Q: As a Mommy what is it that you feel you do “right”?
A: Being patient. I have two older kids that I had when I was a very young adult. I remember my patience wasn’t as good then as it is now. Just realizing babies can’t talk and they can only communicate by crying and acting out. I find I have a lot of patience in dealing with all 3 little girls. Also the schedule works in this scenario as well, but sometimes you just don’t know what they want and have to let them have their moment!
