CC Sabathia Baseball Camp

We are FANS. CC Sabathia held a baseball camp for kids last month in his hometown Vallejo through his PitCCh In Foundation, and it was nothing short of an amazing experience for my son. I literally stumbled upon the opportunity while browsing Facebook one night as I was trying to get myself to fall asleep, and when I saw that it was a FREE one-day camp with an MLB pro, I registered right then and there, with one eye open! And, it’s a good thing I did, because the open spots went fast.

My little slugger.

Anyway, since it was our first “pro” camp, I didn’t want to put too high of an expectation. My main goal was giving him a new experience with a pro and overall hoping he had a great time! A company called ProCamps ran the events, and from the time we checked into when we left, it was all smiles.

I’ll be the first to admit, I didn’t grow up being the biggest baseball fan, so I wasn’t too familiar with CC, other than I knew he was a big name pitcher on a hugely popular team, the New York Yankees. Both of my boys have taken up the sport through little league, so I was really excited for my older son to participate. There was a little bit of envy, as I only signed up my older son (it said grades 1-8 to register), and my little man had to sit this one out.

At the start of camp, the kids break out in small groups by age, then they do all sorts of drills with hands-on instruction, they bring the kids in for group talks with CC and staff, then more baseball skills stations, speed contests, and scrimmages too.

As far as the skill level of the kids attending, they had kids who play travel ball to some who may’ve gotten their first taste of playing organized baseball that day. In our case, I really loved the focus and effort my 6-year old put in during the event. Regardless, they kept all the kids engaged from start to finish in a high-energy, fun, and positive environment.

Plus, CC took a “team” photo with all the kids, they received a camp shirt to keep, plus an autographed photo cards and free pizza!! Thank you so much to CC Sabathia’s PitCCh In Foundation and his family for hosting such an amazing community event. So far in 2019, it has been the top highlight of my son’s year. It’s super awesome that this initial experience of pro camp was so organized, fun and memorable. We are FANS.

Rooted in Oakland.. Go A’s

I’ve been meaning to write this blog all summer…and well now we’re officially in fall, but since the A’s just clinched playoff spot, I figured it’s time to finally get it done! I’m no baseball fan, but my boys are, and their Dad definitely is. Here in the Bay Area we are fortunate to have 2 MLB teams, however the one on the SF side tends to get most of the shine…all of the time. This season however, it’s all about the “Beast Bay,” Go A’s!!

We basically live in the Oakland A’s backyard. The Coliseum is just a few miles away and for the past couple years, the A’s along with Black Bear Diner have sponsored our little league T-Ball and Farm Teams with jerseys.  All this to say that the Oakland A’s have pretty much cemented themselves as my boys’ favorite team. This year we went to a handful of games, the boys are always excited to wear their (little league) team jerseys, and every time I am so impressed and appreciative of all the family and kid-friendly activities. I mean a little incentive and a game break never hurts, right…. 🙂

Stomper Fun Zone is a big hit with my kid’s…they have a play areas that cater to the small set…

Plus interactive games where the kids can line up and give it their best pitch….mine will stay there ALL DAY!

Another big favorite is the Plinko game, it’s totally free and the kids can keep lining up to try their luck and see just where the Plinko puck lands….and get a prize!

And — we can’t forget the game giveaways! We have more than a few bobbleheads, plus all the great memories from hanging out at the ballpark!

Let’ ssee how far the team can take it this year…and we certainly can’t wait to do it all again next year too!

My Boys are fan FAVORITES of Many Teams…

I think my boys will grow up confused when it comes to picking their favorite sports teams… I mean I hope they develop a good appreciation for different teams and different sports, and I’ll let them know Daddy won’t mind if they want to just go with all of Mommy’s favorite hometown teams! Okay, yeah, I don’t think “Daddy” will have any part of that.

I’m from the Bay Area, California…my teams are the Oakland Raiders and the Golden State Warriors, but I also worked for the Sacramento Kings. My other half is from Chicago. He’s all about the Chicago Bears, the White Sox, the Bulls and Blackhawks. I let Daddy choose Bears when Isaiah got his Doc Band wrapped…I mean he won’t even remember it when it truly counts! Then, we met in Miami, so it’s been Miami HEAT, Dolphins, Marlins for the boys. They have worn sports gear from all the various teams and while they really don’t have a say at this point, their loyalty is to whichever team Mom or Dad dressed them in! haha

Hmmm…is there a rule of thumb? I think many times a child’s team ends up being whatever Daddy’s team is because sometimes the Mommy’s don’t care for sports…but not in my house. While I’m not over the top crazed about which team my kids need to root for…I would like them to be on my side. Maybe they’ll go with their South Florida roots since they were born into that sports culture..it all remains to be seen.

So, let me know if you’ve ever dealt with any of this in your house? How have your kids gone about pledging their allegiance to a team!?!?
